Dr. Shanthi Cariappa was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and knew from a young age that she wanted to become a dentist. She pursued that dream with dedication, earning her Bachelor of Science from Adelphi University before graduating in 2014 from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
Since completing dental school, Dr. Cariappa has remained deeply committed to advancing her knowledge, averaging more than 100 hours of continuing education annually, nearly ten times the required amount. Her passion for excellence ensures that her patients receive the most modern, comprehensive, and evidence-based care available.
While in dental school, Dr. Cariappa developed a strong interest in cosmetic and prosthetic dentistry. She has since pursued extensive advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, full-mouth rehabilitation, sleep apnea screening and treatment, and dental anxiety management. Her philosophy is centered on treating the whole person—not just their teeth—by integrating function, esthetics, and overall health into every treatment plan.
Dr. Cariappa is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is proud to be one of the few regional diplomates of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and the only Accreditation Candidate for the AACD—widely regarded as the most prestigious cosmetic dentistry organization in the world. Additionally, she is the only Rhode Island graduate of the Kois Center, an elite postdoctoral dental training program.
Her commitment to professional growth reflects her promise to patients: to remain at the forefront of a constantly evolving field. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, Dr. Cariappa was honored as one of the nation’s Top 40 Dentists Under 40 in 2020.
Outside the office, Dr. Cariappa enjoys spending time with her husband, Jerry, their son, Mac, and their three dogs. As a family, they love traveling, playing pickleball, and exploring the beauty of New England.
